Godai – A VIP Studio Showing

A VIP studio showing – for a small invited audience – is taking place on Saturday July 18th at 7pm and again at 8pm, French Broad Studios in Alexander, NC.

Choreography, costume, and dance performance: Sara Baird
Original composition and music performance: Meg Mulhearn

Godai is a collaboration between choreographer/dancer Sara Baird and composer/violinist Meg Mulhearn. Baird and Mulhearn explore cyclical patterns and metamorphic transformations. They also investigate the Greek goddess Hecate’s triadic nature and the Japanese Buddhist philosophy of godai (五大) or “the five greats” which include earth, water, fire, wind, and the void. Godai is a mythological tale created for the modern age.

This project was supported by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources, with funding from The National Endowment for The Arts. Additional thanks to Jenni Cockrell and Julie Becton Gillum who assisted in the creation of this work.
