Bitter Rice is a dance of transformation. Shifting from hard-edged and masculine to soft and feminine, the dancer sheds layers and changes form. This work addresses themes of personal identity, the concept of time and how it’s measured, and the cyclic nature of life and death. The piece is influenced by Akira Kurosawa’s films Seven Samurai and Rashom
